Site

Within the NatureMetrics Intelligence Platform, your data is managed in sites. Depending on your subscription, a site contains: Habitat Insights data; eDNA data with sampling events and sampling cadence, and (optionally) sampling groups. Your users are given access only to the specific sites you grant them access to. In this way, sites allow you to control access, confidentiality and privacy of your datasets.

A site is a geographic unit for summarising data, metrics and insights. Data at this level will be further aggregated for portfolio views. A site can have multiple ecosystem types/habitats and it is a specific geographic area with well-defined boundaries. While it is most often a single contiguous block, there are cases when it comprises several polygons that are in close proximity.

  • All data collected within the boundaries of a site will be aggregated into site-level summaries.
  • Permissions for staff or stakeholders are managed on a site level, but cannot be controlled below the site level.
  • Relevant questions for clients when setting up or modifying sites within a portfolio are:
    • Are you satisfied that any stakeholder given access to a site will be able to see all available data for that site?
    • Are you satisfied that summary metrics in portfolio view will be provided only for the site, not for the polygons within a site? Note that polygons and sample groups can still be used within a site for deep dive analyses
    • Does the site have a single owner?
    • Does the site have a single dominant economic activity?
    • Will all samples/species data be collected within the site?

If the answer is no to any of these then you might want to split your site into multiple sites.
